Air India and Bhutan’s national carrier Drukair-Royal Bhutan Airlines have entered into an interline partnership aimed at improving connectivity between India and Bhutan while giving passengers access to a wider network through single-ticket bookings.
Under the agreement, travellers can combine Air India and Drukair-operated flights in a single itinerary, allowing smoother end-to-end journeys. The arrangement also provides coordinated baggage transfers through Air India’s hub at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, meaning passengers will not need to recheck their luggage during transit.
Air India said the partnership would expand its reach across the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region through its own services and partner networks. Passengers will also have access to interline fares, additional routing choices and greater flexibility.
For Air India passengers, the agreement provides easier access to Bhutan through Drukair’s flights to Paro via Delhi. From Paro, travellers can connect to other destinations in Bhutan, including Bumthang, Gelephu and Yonphula.
Air India Chief Commercial Officer Nipun Aggarwal said the partnership reflected the airline’s commitment to expanding connectivity across the SAARC region, which it considers its extended home market. He described Bhutan as an important part of the region and said the arrangement would make travel to the country easier for Air India customers while bringing Drukair passengers onto Air India’s wider domestic and international network.
The partnership will also enable Drukair passengers to connect to Air India’s domestic destinations through Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata. These connections will include cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kochi.
Passengers will further be able to access Air India’s international network, including Paris, Colombo, Newark, Frankfurt, New York, London, Melbourne, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto and Vancouver.
Drukair CEO Tandi Wangchuk described the agreement as an important milestone for the Bhutanese carrier’s efforts to strengthen global connectivity and improve the passenger experience.
He said the partnership would provide Drukair customers with more seamless travel options, broader access to international markets and improved connectivity across India and other destinations.
