Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday launched the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, under which eligible women will receive monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The Chief Minister handed over approval and verification certificates to thousands of women beneficiaries and formally initiated the process for transferring the monthly assistance to their bank accounts.
Greeting women on Raksha Bandhan, Gupta said the scheme had now reached women across the national capital. She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the initiative would provide financial support to women.
According to the Chief Minister, more than 9.22 lakh women have registered for the scheme since its launch on August 1. She said the first 2,500 beneficiaries had been formally issued verification and approval certificates and would receive the scheme’s benefits.
Gupta stressed that women’s economic empowerment was essential for the progress of families and the country. She said that unless women were able to progress, prosper and overcome their difficulties, the country’s broader problems could not be resolved.
Women beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, describing the monthly assistance as a source of financial support and greater independence for homemakers.
One beneficiary said she was extremely happy to be included in the scheme and described the assistance as a major financial boost ahead of Raksha Bandhan.
Another beneficiary called the scheme a “symbol of women’s freedom”, saying homemakers would now have greater financial independence and support.
BJP MLA Anil Goyal said the launch fulfilled a commitment made by the party during the Delhi Assembly election campaign. He said the ₹2,500 monthly assistance would now be transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible women through DBT.
Goyal described the initiative as the fulfilment of the “Modi Guarantee” made during the elections and said it demonstrated that the BJP government was delivering on its commitments.
The Delhi government has launched the scheme with the stated objective of providing financial assistance to eligible women and strengthening their economic independence.
