Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Tuesday described the recent students’ protest as a defining democratic movement, saying future generations would remember it as a “Tree of Resistance” in the history of India.
Speaking to mediapersons during his visit to Storyline Montessori & Café in Sector 66-A, Mohali, Sandhwan said the spirit displayed by the students drew inspiration from the historic farmers’ agitation against the three farm laws. He said the movement reflected the growing awareness among the country’s youth and their determination to protect their rights and interests.
The Speaker said the voices of young people deserved to be heard and respected, adding that the protest had also brought several important public issues into focus.
Later, Sandhwan toured the Montessori learning spaces and the family café along with Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker S. Jai Krishan Singh Rouri and MLAs S. Kulwant Singh Pandori and S. Manjinder Singh Lalpura. He interacted with the management team, including S. Gurpreet Singh Brar, S. Harsher Singh Sidhu and S. Davinder Singh Brar, and appreciated the institution’s child-centric concept that combines early childhood education with a family-oriented café.
Praising the initiative, the Speaker said such innovative educational models encourage creativity, storytelling and experiential learning while creating an environment where parents and children can spend quality time together. He noted that the Montessori caters to children between the ages of two and five and has already enrolled around 35 children, indicating a positive response from working parents.
Sandhwan said the institution promotes independence, teamwork, confidence and social skills while consciously reducing children’s dependence on mobile phones and television. He added that such learning environments contribute significantly to the holistic development of young children.
The management shared its vision of building a nurturing ecosystem for children and thanked the Speaker for visiting the facility despite his busy schedule. They reaffirmed their commitment to delivering quality early childhood education and meaningful experiences for families across Punjab.
Responding to questions about the forthcoming Punjab Vidhan Sabha session, Sandhwan said the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government would be remembered for taking several landmark decisions in the larger public interest. He also asserted that the Punjab Vidhan Sabha has consistently acted in accordance with the interests and aspirations of the people of the state.
