Ms Anreet Kaur, a Ph.D. student of the Department of Agronomy, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has brought laurels to the university by securing the highly esteemed Fellowship: Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for a period of five years for her Ph.D. programme.
Anreet Kaur is conducting her Ph.D. research entitled ‘Enhancing crop and water productivity of Rice (Oryza sativa L.) under reduced sunlight intensity using modelling to field approach’ under the supervision of Dr. Sandeep Singh Sandhu, Principal Scientist as Major Advisor and Dr Prabhjyot Kaur, Dr Simerjeet Kaur, Dr Navita Ghai and Dr Hari Ram as members of Advisory Committee of the student.
While highlighting about the study Dr. Sandeep Singh Sandhu emphasized that crop simulation models (CERES-rice) can help in understanding and mitigating the impact of reduced sunlight on crop productivity.
The research can help in reducing the yield losses in rice due to fluctuations in sunshine; and increase the water productivity of rice under changing climatic conditions.
The Worthy Vice-Chancellor of PAU, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, congratulated Anreet Kaur and her major advisor, Dr. S.S. Sandhu, for this outstanding achievement. Dr. Gosal also commended the Department of Agronomy for nurturing such talented scholars.
Similarly, Dr C S Aulakh, Dean College of Agriculture and Dr. M. I. S. Gill, Dean of Post Graduate Studies, applauded her efforts and recognized her strong candidacy for the fellowship.
Dr. Hari Ram, Head, Department of Agronomy, and Dr P K Kingra, Head Department of Climate Change and Agricultural Meteorology along with the entire faculty, expressed their pride and congratulated Anreet Kaur for her remarkable accomplishment.
