Three minor brothers drowned in a waterbody in Bihar’s Purnea district on Sunday morning after they entered deep water in an attempt to save one of their siblings who had fallen in while fishing.
The tragedy occurred in Ward No. 7 of Kullakhas Panchayat under Kasba block in Alamnagar.
According to officials, four sons of local resident Alamgir had gone to a waterbody behind a warehouse near their home to catch fish using a net. During the activity, one of the boys reportedly began drowning.
His two brothers entered the deeper section of the waterbody in an attempt to rescue him, but all three were pulled under and drowned.
The fourth brother, Ali Hussain, witnessed the incident and ran back to the village to alert the family. Relatives and villagers rushed to the spot and recovered the three children after considerable effort, but they had already died.
The deceased have been identified as Mofijul, 12, Tafijul, 10, and Sairajul, 8. All three were biological brothers.
The deaths left the family and the village in shock. Their father, Alamgir, has eight sons, while their mother, Dulhari, and other family members were left inconsolable following the loss of three children in the same incident.
Kullakhas Panchayat Mukhiya Ranjit Paswan expressed condolences to the bereaved family and appealed to the administration to provide government financial assistance to them.
Kasba Circle Officer Nishant Kumar confirmed the drowning deaths and said an official was sent to the site immediately after the administration received information about the incident.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Purnea Medical College for post-mortem examination. The bodies will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem for the last rites.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Alamnagar, with local residents gathering to support the grieving family.
