A father and his daughter were killed while his wife and son suffered critical injuries after a speeding car rammed into their motorcycle in Jaipur’s Sanganer area in the early hours of Monday, police said.
The accident occurred around 12.30 a.m. when the family was travelling on a motorcycle near a stadium. According to preliminary information, the car was heading from Kordia petrol pump towards Sangasetu pump when it struck the two-wheeler with such force that the father and daughter died at the spot.
The injured mother and son were rushed to the trauma centre at SMS Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Police said the car driver allegedly fled towards Sanganer police station after the collision. During the alleged escape, the vehicle also struck a scooter and another motorcycle between Sanganer police station and Sangasetu.
A police team pursued the car and intercepted it near Haldighati Gate on Tonk Road. The driver has been detained and is being questioned.
Authorities are also trying to determine whether riders of the other vehicles hit by the car suffered injuries and were subsequently admitted to private hospitals.
Police have begun efforts to establish the identities of the deceased father and daughter.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Mukesh Choudhary confirmed that the speeding car struck the family’s motorcycle, killing the man riding it and his daughter, while his wife and son sustained serious injuries.
The latest incident comes after another fatal road accident in Rajasthan in which three women from the same family were killed and 13 others injured when a Tempo Traveller carrying pilgrims collided head-on with a trailer truck near the Bobasar overpass in Churu district.
The Tempo Traveller was carrying 17 members of a family from Kolkata from Salasar Balaji temple to Pushkar when the trailer crashed into it in the Sujangarh police station area. The front portion of the vehicle was completely crushed in the collision.
