One person was killed and around 30 others were injured, several of them critically, after a pickup truck carrying devotees to the Ganga overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district on Monday morning, officials said.
The accident took place on the Malaka Highway in the Kokhraj police station area when the speeding pickup reportedly lost control and overturned.
One person died at the spot, while nearly 30 passengers sustained injuries. Several of the injured were reported to be in critical condition and were admitted to a medical college for treatment.
On receiving information about the accident, Kokhraj Station House Officer Santosh Sharma reached the spot with a police team and began rescue operations. Police personnel evacuated the injured and arranged their transportation to the hospital.
In an immediate response, Sharma also used his official vehicle to transport some of the injured to the medical college for treatment.
District Magistrate Amit Kumar Pal confirmed that around 30 people were injured in the accident.
“Thirty people have been injured in this incident. As soon as we received the information, ambulances were dispatched, and the injured were immediately transported to the hospital,” he said.
Residents and relatives of the victims appreciated the prompt response of the Kokhraj police, particularly Sharma’s efforts in helping transport the injured.
The deceased person’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police have also initiated further legal proceedings in connection with the accident.
