Singer A.R. Ameen, son of Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, escaped with minor injuries after the luxury car he was travelling in collided with a cab near Olympia Tech Park in Chennai in the early hours of Monday.
According to police, the accident took place around 3.30 a.m. when Ameen and a friend were travelling towards Guindy on Jawaharlal Nehru Road, popularly known as the Inner Ring Road.
The collision reportedly occurred when a cab entered the main road from a side road near Olympia Tech Park. Ameen and his friend sustained minor injuries in the impact and were taken to a private hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Both were subsequently discharged and returned home, with police confirming that their injuries were not serious.
A passenger travelling in the cab was also injured and was taken to the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital. The passenger received treatment and was later discharged.
No life-threatening injuries were reported among those involved, although both vehicles were damaged in the collision.
The Adyar Traffic Investigation Wing (TIW) has launched an inquiry into the accident. Investigators are examining the circumstances in which the cab entered Jawaharlal Nehru Road and whether excessive speed or any other traffic violation contributed to the collision.
Police are also expected to examine CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events. Statements from the drivers and occupants of both vehicles will form part of the investigation.
The accident occurred during the early morning hours when traffic on the arterial road was relatively light.
Ameen, who has performed alongside his father at concerts and other musical events, has worked on several musical projects as a singer and performer.
The Adyar TIW is continuing its investigation to establish the exact cause of the collision.
