Pakistan authorities have imposed a curfew in Surab district of Balochistan province amid concerns over the law-and-order situation, according to local media reports.
An official notification said the curfew would remain in force from August 9 to 15, with restrictions imposed daily between 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. Residents have been directed to remain indoors during the curfew hours and comply with security standard operating procedures.
The notification warned that those violating the restrictions would be responsible for any consequences arising from their actions.
Separately, the district administration of neighbouring Khuzdar has ordered all markets, shops, hotels and other commercial establishments to remain closed from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. The order, issued by the Khuzdar deputy commissioner, will remain effective until further directions, Pakistan’s Dawn reported.
The curfew comes amid continuing reports of security concerns and allegations of rights violations in Balochistan.
Last month, Paank, the human rights department of the Baloch National Movement, alleged that 19-year-old labourer Saeed Ahmed was forcibly disappeared from the Nigar area of Surab district on July 12. The organisation alleged that personnel of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence and Frontier Corps were involved.
Meanwhile, Baloch activists and human rights groups have also condemned the reported killing of Baloch civilian Inayatullah Jattak in Khuzdar district.
According to the Baloch Voice for Justice, Jattak was shot dead on August 4, shortly after his daughter Asma Jattak publicly sought protection for her family.
In a video shared on X, Asma alleged that death squad member Zahoor Jamalzai and his associates had threatened to kill her father and brothers. These allegations have not been independently verified.
The latest curfew order adds to the security restrictions being imposed in parts of Balochistan amid continuing tensions in the province.
