Three members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) — Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda and Jamal Ahmed — resigned from their posts on Sunday amid an ongoing CID investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
The three members submitted their resignation letters to Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The reasons for their resignations have not been disclosed so far.
The resignations come as the Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating allegations of manipulation and other irregularities in recent JPSC competitive examinations. The controversy has also triggered protests by candidates, who have demanded a fair and transparent probe into the examination process.
The three resigned members had been summoned by the CID for questioning as part of the investigation. According to official sources, Bhattacharya is scheduled to appear before investigators on Monday, Hansda on Tuesday and Ahmed on Wednesday. They may also be called for further questioning, if required.
The CID had earlier questioned former JPSC Chairman and former Chief Secretary L. Khiangte on four occasions. Investigators are examining the examination process, decisions taken at the commission level and other aspects linked to the alleged irregularities.
The agency is expected to take further action based on information emerging from the questioning. Sources indicated that more arrests could follow if investigators uncover additional evidence.
So far, the CID has arrested four candidates allegedly involved in examination-related fraud along with three suspected middlemen as part of the probe.
