Fazilka, August 10, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Farmers and residents from Fazilka’s border belt met Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday under the leadership of Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna and Jalalabad MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, apprising him of the difficulties they may face due to an embankment being constructed along the border by the Centre.
The farmers told the Chief Minister that the embankment was being constructed without taking the local residents into confidence or consulting them. They expressed apprehension that the project could adversely affect farmers and people living in the border areas.
The delegation also highlighted the concerns of farmers who have been opposing the construction, explaining the difficulties they fear may arise once the work is completed.
After hearing the delegation, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assured the residents of the Fazilka border belt that he would take up the matter with the Central government.
Mann assured them that the Punjab government would work to ensure that the interests of people living along the border were protected and that they would not be allowed to suffer losses because of the project.
The meeting was facilitated by Fazilka MLA Narinderpal Singh Sawna and Jalalabad MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, who brought the concerns of the border-area farmers before the Chief Minister.
