Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday hosted India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 medal winners at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and lauded their performances at the Glasgow Games, saying their achievements would inspire a new generation of athletes.
“Delighted to host our outstanding medal winners from the Commonwealth Games 2026 at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Heard about their experiences from the Games. Each one of them has made our nation proud through their exceptional performances. Their success will motivate many youngsters,” PM Modi posted on X.
India finished fourth in the medal standings in Glasgow with 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. The achievement came despite India competing in a significantly reduced programme that did not include traditionally medal-rich disciplines such as wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey and shooting.
Boxing emerged as one of India’s strongest disciplines, with the contingent winning seven gold and three silver medals. The gold medallists were Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal.
Jadumani Singh, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Narender Berwal won silver medals. The seven gold medals also marked the best-ever performance by Indian women boxers at the Commonwealth Games.
India also produced its best-ever Commonwealth Games showing in judo, winning four medals — two gold, one silver and one bronze — from 12 events. Khelo India athletes Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh created history by winning India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medals in judo. Asmita became the first Indian woman to win a Commonwealth Games judo gold, while Harsh achieved the feat among Indian men.
Athletics contributed 10 medals, including five silver and five bronze. Gulveer Singh became the first Indian track and field athlete to win two individual medals at a single Commonwealth Games, taking silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m.
India’s strong performances in boxing, judo, athletics and para-athletics helped it secure fourth place despite the restricted competition programme in Glasgow.
