Fadnavis briefs PM Modi on Maharashtra projects, rejects speculation over shift to Delhi

New Delhi, August 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and briefed him on major development projects, infrastructure initiatives and Centre-State schemes, while dismissing speculation that he could move to national politics.

Fadnavis said the meeting focused on expediting key infrastructure and development projects in Maharashtra. He also submitted a memorandum seeking greater central assistance for joint initiatives and apprised the Prime Minister of the progress of various state projects.

“I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him on the administration and various ongoing projects in Maharashtra. I also submitted updates on joint Centre-State initiatives and detailed the support expected from the Central Government. Whenever we seek assistance and hold discussions, it yields positive outcomes, and today’s discussion was equally fruitful,” Fadnavis told reporters.

The discussions covered highway networks, railway connectivity, metro expansion and river-linking projects, besides infrastructure, industrial and social-sector initiatives. Fadnavis sought enhanced support from the Centre to accelerate the implementation of projects being undertaken jointly by the state and central governments.

Describing the meeting with Modi as motivating, Fadnavis said the Prime Minister’s guidance and support had been valuable for Maharashtra. In a social media post, he said he had briefed Modi on the progress of several development projects and sought additional support for Centre-State initiatives.

The Prime Minister’s Office also confirmed the meeting in an official post.

Fadnavis dismissed speculation that his Delhi visit indicated a possible move to national politics. He said Modi and the people of Maharashtra had entrusted him with the responsibility of serving the state and that he remained committed to doing so from Mumbai.

“Whether I am in Delhi or Mumbai, rumours inevitably start. Many idle people take pleasure in gossiping about me, so let them enjoy themselves. Whatever wild assumptions they want to make, or kites and balloons they want to fly, let them go ahead,” he said.

During his Delhi visit, Fadnavis also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.

At his meeting with Sitharaman, he submitted a proposal relating to a JICA-funded project and said Maharashtra would incorporate the suggestions made by the ministry. He also met Yadav to submit reports and follow up on key environmental and forest clearances required for development projects in the state.
