The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday appointed Chhattisgarh-based political organiser Deepak Mhaskey as the new head of its IT and social media department, replacing Amit Malviya, who had led the party’s digital operations for more than a decade.
The appointment was part of the BJP’s broader organisational reshuffle announced on Monday, with the new office-bearers taking charge with immediate effect.
Alongside Mhaskey, the party named Priti Gandhi, Shivanand Dwivedi, Alok Bhatt and Arun Yadav as social media co-convenors.
Mhaskey, who has also worked as a Chemistry professor, has been associated with the BJP’s Chhattisgarh unit for several years.
Malviya congratulated the newly appointed office-bearers and said their appointments came at an important juncture as the BJP sought to expand its organisation and communication network across the country.
“I wish to particularly congratulate Shri Deepak Mhaskey ji, who will be taking over from me as the head of the BJP’s Social Media Department, and the co-conveners Smt. Priti Gandhi ji, Shri Shivanand Dwivedi ji, Shri Alok Bhatt ji and Shri Arun Yadav ji,” Malviya said.
He said he had worked closely with the four co-convenors over the past decade and expressed confidence that the new team would take the BJP’s digital communication to newer milestones while shaping public discourse with “conviction, creativity and clarity”.
Malviya also thanked the BJP’s social media supporters, describing them as a committed community that had remained with the party through challenging periods and contributed to its digital outreach.
Reflecting on his 11-year tenure at the helm, he said his interactions with the party’s social media supporters would remain special and urged them to extend the same support to the new leadership.
“India is poised to scale even greater heights under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and the BJP. Your contribution to this journey will be remembered and written in glorious words,” Malviya said.
