Veteran Rajasthan BJP leaders Vasundhara Raje and Satish Poonia have secured key positions in BJP national president Nitin Nabin’s newly announced organisational team, ending months of anticipation over the appointments.
The new national team comprises 13 Vice Presidents and eight General Secretaries, along with leaders appointed to other organisational positions. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been named National Vice President, while former Union Minister Smriti Irani has been appointed National General Secretary. Rajasthan BJP leader Satish Poonia has also been given a key organisational responsibility.

The appointments were announced around seven months after Nabin took charge as BJP president, with the formation of his national team having remained pending during the period.
The composition of the new team assumes significance as the BJP prepares for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Six office-bearers in the new organisational structure are from Uttar Pradesh.
The team also includes three leaders from Rajasthan, six from Delhi, four from Maharashtra, and two each from Uttarakhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Kerala and Bihar.
Several women leaders have been assigned prominent organisational positions. They include Vasundhara Raje, National Vice President, Rajasthan; D. Purandeswari, National Vice President, Andhra Pradesh; Rekha Verma, National Vice President, Uttar Pradesh; Varshaben Doshi, National Vice President, Gujarat; Bharati Pawar, National Vice President, Maharashtra; and Madhuchandra Kar, National Vice President, West Bengal.
Among the women appointed as National Secretaries are Kavita Patidar of Madhya Pradesh, Phangnon Konyak of Nagaland and Sangeeta Yadav of Uttar Pradesh. Smriti Irani has been appointed National General Secretary.
Roop Kumari Chaudhary of Chhattisgarh has been appointed Mahila Morcha president, while Preeti Gandhi of Maharashtra has been named Social Media Co-convenor.
The new organisational structure is expected to strengthen the BJP’s organisational network and help the party prepare for upcoming Assembly elections and other political challenges.
