Actress Shilpa Shetty marked Naga Panchami by returning to her Mangalorean roots and offering prayers to Naga Daiva at a temple with her mother, Sunanda Shetty.
Sharing glimpses of the religious visit on social media, Shilpa said her upbringing as a Mangalorean had instilled in her a deep reverence for Naga Daiva worship, a tradition she considers an important link to her roots and family lineage.
“Naga Daiva holds a deeply sacred place in my heart. Being a Bunt from Mangalore, I’ve grown up with a deep reverence for Naga Daiva worship, a tradition that connects me to my roots, ancestors, and a lineage believed to protect our progeny and family,” she wrote.
The actress added that she was grateful to continue the traditions passed down through generations and wished her followers on Naga Panchami.
Shilpa’s ‘Dhadkan’ co-star and fellow Mangalorean actor Suniel Shetty also marked the festival by performing Naga Dev pooja.
Sharing a video from the rituals on Instagram, Suniel recalled his childhood in Mulki, Mangalore, and said the festival always reminded him of home and the traditions he grew up with.
“Naga Panchami always takes me back home. Growing up in Mulki, Mangalore, Naga Dev has always been a part of our family and our traditions. For me, it is not just a festival but a reminder of the faith, values and connection to our roots that we carry with us,” he said.
The ‘Hera Pheri’ actor added that he was seeking the blessings of Naga Dev for “peace, strength and protection” on the occasion.
