Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Daayra, has opened up about the restrained and intense nature of her performance in the Meghna Gulzar directorial.
Known for her expressive screen presence and signature “Bebo” style, Kareena jokingly said she saved her many expressions for the film’s trailer launch after being repeatedly asked by the director to hold back during the movie.
“I am very expressive. You must be aware that I have given 100 expressions at the trailer launch,” Kareena quipped.
Explaining her animated appearance at the event, she added, “Because I didn’t get a chance in the film, so I did it at the trailer launch.”
Kareena plays a police officer in Daayra, a role that required her to maintain a controlled and restrained demeanour. She said much of her performance involved sitting behind a desk and questioning other characters, with the camera closely focused on her face.
“Because I have held on to the character a lot in the film, I was always sitting because, as a police officer, I had a table in front of me. So I was always interviewing when I was with the other actors,” she said.
Describing the challenge of suppressing her naturally expressive side, Kareena said, “The camera was always on my face, but my legs were always like this,” she said while enacting her legs shaking.
“When will that expression of Bebo come? And she (Meghna) would be like, ‘No’,” Kareena added, referring to Meghna Gulzar’s insistence that she remain restrained in character.
The actress said the experience has allowed her to explore a different side of her personality as a performer.
“So I think it has brought a different dimension to my personality,” she said.
Kareena also expressed excitement about the film’s release on September 18, just days before her birthday on September 21.
“And now I can’t wait for the 18th of September. So I want the audience to give me a birthday present, because my birthday is on the 21st. So I am sure it’s going to be amazing,” she said.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, Daayra features Kareena Kapoor Khan in the role of a police officer and is scheduled to release on September 18.
