Punjabi singer Jass Manak has faced criticism on social media after a video from his engagement ceremony with fashion designer and creative stylist Komal Tanwar surfaced online.
The widely circulated clip shows the singer throwing currency notes at Komal during the engagement celebrations. The couple can be seen celebrating alongside family members and guests, while Jass showers money on his fiancée.
The gesture drew criticism from a section of social media users, with several questioning the practice of throwing currency notes during wedding and engagement festivities.
One user called the act “extremely disrespectful”, while another urged the singer to “have some respect for money”. Another commenter objected to Komal continuing to dance during the moment, calling the gesture disrespectful towards her.
A further comment criticised the singer for what the user described as a lack of decency, while another said there was a more respectful way to shower money on someone during celebrations.
However, the video also prompted support for Jass Manak, with some social media users defending the gesture as part of traditional celebrations and saying it should not be viewed negatively.
Jass Manak recently got engaged to Komal Tanwar in an intimate ceremony attended by close family members and friends. The couple opted for coordinated traditional Indian outfits for the occasion.
Manak is known for several popular Punjabi tracks, including ‘Lehanga’, ‘Prada’, ‘Viah’ and ‘Suit Punjabi’. Among them, ‘Lehanga’ became one of his biggest career successes, while ‘Prada’ helped establish him as one of the prominent young voices in the Punjabi music industry.
