Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) unit in Pathankot has arrested two men allegedly involved in a foreign-based plot to carry out a targeted killing and recovered two .30-bore pistols and 10 live cartridges from their possession.
The arrests were made as part of the state government’s ongoing drive to strengthen security and curb organised criminal activities, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Friday.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ravinder Singh alias Dhillon, a resident of Dhilwan in Batala, and Jashanpreet Singh of village Bal in Gurdaspur. Police also impounded a new Splendor motorcycle allegedly being used by the accused. The motorcycle did not have a registration number.
According to preliminary investigation, the two accused had recently returned from Dubai and were allegedly operating on the instructions of a foreign-based handler to execute a targeted killing, the DGP said.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said investigators were working to establish the wider network and trace its backward and forward linkages, including other operatives allegedly connected with the foreign-based handlers.
AIG Counter Intelligence Pathankot Sukhminder Singh Mann said the operation followed specific intelligence inputs that two motorcycle-borne suspects carrying weapons were travelling from Gurdaspur towards Batala with the alleged intention of carrying out a target killing.
Acting on the information, CI teams cordoned off the area and intercepted the suspects on the outskirts of Gurdaspur while they were travelling on the motorcycle. During a search, police recovered two .30-bore pistols and 10 live cartridges, Mann said.
A case has been registered as FIR No. 57 dated September 10, 2026, under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Police Station, State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
Further investigation is underway to determine the intended target and uncover the complete network behind the alleged plot.
