Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq have appeared before the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore in connection with an inquiry into alleged leaks of sensitive information from the team’s dressing room, according to reports.
The NCCIA is reportedly examining the financial dealings and suspected transactions of the two players before and during the ongoing Test series. Their bank account details are also under scrutiny, with investigators looking into transactions during the relevant period and the source of any funds identified.
According to a report in The News International, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had taken possession of the players’ mobile phones and handed them over to the authorities. The devices are expected to be examined as part of the investigation into how sensitive team information may have surfaced during the series.
Rizwan and Imam appeared before the NCCIA after being summoned in connection with the alleged leaks. They reportedly submitted written responses but sought additional time to provide detailed replies to the notices. The agency is expected to question them further.
The two cricketers were among seven players removed from Pakistan’s squad following heavy defeats in the first two Tests against England. The other players sent home were Salman Agha, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
The PCB subsequently brought seven replacements into the squad and announced an internal disciplinary inquiry into matters concerning discipline and conduct.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had defended the changes, saying the board had no option but to replace underperforming players while stressing that the move was not intended to permanently exclude them from selection.
PCB chairman’s adviser Amir Mir also confirmed that an internal disciplinary inquiry had been initiated following media reports about discipline and conduct. He said the matter was being examined under the board’s established regulations and urged stakeholders to rely on official communications rather than unverified reports.
The developments come amid renewed scrutiny of Pakistan cricket following its poor performance in England. The PCB has also made changes to the coaching setup, removing Test head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul.
The broader investigations remain underway, with authorities examining the alleged information leaks and related financial transactions.
