The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will undertake four statewide “Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras” from September 18 to mobilise people across all 117 Assembly constituencies against drugs, deteriorating law and order and corruption.
Announcing the programme, BJP Punjab president Kewal Singh Dhillon said the campaign, being held under the slogan “Bhajpa Da Naara, Nasha Mukauna Saara”, would seek to turn the fight against drugs into a mass public movement.
Dhillon said the yatras were not merely an anti-drug awareness campaign but a broader fight for Punjabiyat, the state’s cultural values, its youth, law and order and clean governance. He alleged that corruption had spread across different levels of administration, from tehsil offices and police stations to the Chief Minister’s Office.
He said the drug crisis was causing immense distress to families, particularly mothers and sisters, while pushing Punjab’s youth—traditionally associated with the armed forces, sports and nation-building—towards addiction. According to him, drug abuse was also contributing to crime, violence and gang-related activities and placing a severe financial burden on families, some of whom were being forced into debt or to sell land and other assets for treatment.
The announcement was made in the presence of BJP National Vice President Manpreet Badal, former state presidents Sunil Jakhar and Ashwani Sharma, state general secretary and Yatra in-charge Rajesh Bagha, and state media head Vineet Joshi.
The first yatra will be flagged off by BJP National President Nitin Nabin on September 18 from Ekta Sthal at Madhopur in Sujanpur, Pathankot. It will pass through Sujanpur, Pathankot, Bhoa, Dina Nagar, Gurdaspur, Qadian, Sri Hargobindpur, Batala, Fatehgarh Churian, Dera Baba Nanak, Ajnala, Raja Sansi, Attari, Amritsar West, Amritsar Central, Amritsar South, Amritsar East, Amritsar North, Majitha, Jandiala, Baba Bakala, Tarn Taran, Khadoor Sahib, Khem Karan, Patti, Ferozepur City, Guru Har Sahai, Ferozepur Rural, Zira, Sultanpur Lodhi, Bholath, Kapurthala, Nakodar, Shahkot and Jalandhar Cantt, before concluding at Jalandhar.
The second yatra will begin on September 19 after paying obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib. Its route will cover Samrala, Payal, Khanna, Amloh, Fatehgarh Sahib, Bassi Pathana, Dera Bassi, SAS Nagar, Kharar, Chamkaur Sahib, Ropar, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar, Chabbewal, Hoshiarpur, Sham Chaurasi, Dasuya, Mukerian, Urmar, Adampur, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Banga and Phagwara before reaching Jalandhar.
The third yatra will start from Sadiqi Border at the Asafwala 1971 War Memorial in Fazilka on September 20. It will cover Fazilka, Balluana, Abohar, Jalalabad, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Malout, Gidderbaha, Jaito, Kotkapura, Faridkot, Bagha Purana, Nihal Singh Wala, Dharamkot, Moga, Jagraon, Raikot, Dakha, Malerkotla, Amargadh, Gill, Sahnewal and Ludhiana Urban.
The fourth yatra will begin on September 21 after paying obeisance at Gurdwara Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo. Its route will include Talwandi Sabo, Maur, Rampura Phul, Bhucho Mandi, Bathinda Rural, Bathinda Urban, Mansa, Sardulgarh, Budhlada, Bhadaur, Barnala, Mehal Kalan, Dhuri, Sangrur, Sunam, Dirba, Lehra, Shutrana, Nabha, Patiala Rural, Patiala Urban, Sanaur and Rajpura, before concluding at Jalandhar.
The BJP said the four routes have been planned to take the campaign to constituencies across the state and build public participation around its anti-drug message.
