A dispute between two friends in Mumbai’s Goregaon turned fatal after a 26-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his friend following an argument over the use of clothes and other belongings without permission, police said.
According to the FIR registered by Goregaon Police, the deceased has been identified as Suraj Dole, 26. The accused, Babasaheb alias Subodh Waghmare, 37, works as an animal caretaker and reportedly lives on a footpath in Goregaon West.
The incident took place around 11.30 p.m. on September 9 near King Studio, opposite Utkarsh Small Finance Bank on S.V. Road.
According to a complaint filed by Dole’s father, Shankar Dole, the two men were arguing when their friend Sudhanshu Pandey intervened and asked them about the dispute.
Waghmare allegedly told Pandey that Dole frequently used his clothes and other belongings without permission. He also alleged that Dole had taken away his bag containing clothes and had not returned it.
During the argument, Dole allegedly abused Waghmare, following which the accused attacked him with his hands. Waghmare then allegedly picked up a stone from the sidewalk and struck Dole on the face, causing serious injuries and heavy bleeding.
Waghmare allegedly fled the scene after the assault. Dole was later found dead.
Police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of law and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
In a separate incident in Pune, a 28-year-old competitive examination aspirant was allegedly abducted and assaulted after two men objected to his communication with a female friend of one of them, police said.
The incident came to light around 12.30 a.m. on Thursday after an emergency call to 112 reported that Prasad Suryavanshi had allegedly been abducted in a black Scorpio from Narayan Peth, within the jurisdiction of Perugate Police Chowki.
Police teams traced and chased the vehicle and rescued Suryavanshi, who was allegedly being taken towards Sinhagad Road. Two suspects were apprehended around 1.23 a.m., police said.
