KTR, Kavitha question Rahul Gandhi’s silence over alleged police action against Telangana students

Hyderabad, August 21, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao and Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) leader K. Kavitha on Friday accused the Congress of “double standards” and questioned Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s silence over alleged police excesses against protesting students in Telangana.

KTR, reacting to Gandhi’s visit to the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi to demand an FIR over alleged police action against a student, asked whether the Congress leader would similarly protest against the Telangana government.

In a post on X, KTR contrasted Gandhi’s criticism of police action against students in Delhi with what he alleged was the treatment of students by police in Telangana.

“There are two Indias,” KTR said, alleging that students in Telangana had been subjected to cane charges, choking, dragging and kicking by police.

He questioned whether Gandhi would stage a dharna outside Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s residence in support of the students.

KTR also shared images of Gandhi with an injured student and photographs purportedly showing police using force against protesting students in Telangana.

Kavitha separately accused Gandhi of remaining silent over what she described as police “high-handedness” against students in the state.

In a post on X, she referred to an alleged August 19 incident in Mahabubabad, claiming that a police inspector serving under the Congress government was captured on video allegedly grabbing polytechnic students by their throats and manhandling them during a protest.

Kavitha questioned why Gandhi had demanded an FIR over police action in Delhi but had not expressed similar concern over the Telangana incident.

She alleged that students protesting over their education and future were being treated as criminals and accused the Congress of applying different standards to police action in Delhi and Telangana.

The allegations come amid a broader political confrontation between the Congress and opposition parties over police handling of student protests in different parts of the country.
