Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday described every mother and sister in the state as a “brand ambassador” of the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna, saying the scheme was aimed at strengthening women’s dignity, self-respect and financial autonomy.
Mann said more than 75 lakh women had registered under the scheme so far, with ₹3,824.87 crore transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts as Satkar Rashi. He said the state government had set a target of extending the benefits to one crore women.
“This scheme is a social revolution which will enhance the self-confidence, self-respect and dignity of our mothers and daughters,” the Chief Minister said.
Mann said around 97 per cent of women in Punjab were expected to be eligible for the scheme and that ₹9,300 crore had been allocated for it in the state budget. According to him, eligible women above 18 years of age were receiving notifications on their mobile phones regarding financial assistance of ₹1,000, while eligible Scheduled Caste women were receiving ₹1,500.
He appealed to eligible women who had not yet registered to enrol and avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits.
“This is the first scheme of its kind in the country under which all eligible women are being provided Satkar Rashi,” Mann said, adding that the initiative represented a pathway towards greater financial freedom for women.
The Chief Minister also said the financial assistance was not intended to make women rich but to provide them with dignity and self-respect.
“Strengthening women’s financial autonomy is essential for improving household welfare, promoting gender equity and enhancing women’s participation in social and economic decision-making,” he said.
Mann also reiterated that no eligible woman would be deprived of the scheme’s benefits.
“As long as I am holding the charge of the office, no eligible woman will be deprived of the benefits of the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna,” he said.
The Chief Minister also felicitated Gurmail Kaur, alias Melo, of village Adampura, a beneficiary who became widely known on social media after the launch of the scheme.
The meeting turned emotional when Gurmail Kaur met Mann and hugged and blessed him. Mann said the meeting had brought “solace to my soul” and presented her with gifts as a mark of affection and respect.
Sharing a video of the meeting, Mann thanked the mothers and sisters of Punjab for making the scheme a success and said he would remain committed to the service of the state.
