Rajpura, October 4, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab State and Union Territory of Chandigarh Human Rights Commission member Padma Shri Jatinder Singh Shanty on Sunday said protecting human rights and ensuring justice for victims remained the Commission’s foremost responsibility, asserting that every person had the right to present their grievance without fear or hesitation.

Addressing a public grievance hearing in Rajpura, Shanty described the forum as the “people’s court” and said the administration must listen seriously to every complaint and take necessary steps to ensure justice.

He reviewed issues concerning various government departments from a human rights perspective along with ADC (General) Anuprita Johal, SDM Gurdev Singh Dham, DSP Rashpal Singh and officials from the Health Department, Municipal Council, Electricity Department and other departments. Directions were issued to officials to improve public services and resolve grievances.

Shanty said the Human Rights Commission had issued instructions concerning human rights safeguards in government and private hospitals, including adequate mortuary facilities and ambulance services.

He stressed that hospitals must ensure dignified handling of deceased persons, particularly unclaimed bodies and those belonging to economically weaker sections. He said arrangements should be made for free or assisted cremation or burial wherever required.

The Commission member also emphasised the safety of sanitation workers, saying they must be provided with appropriate protective equipment, safety facilities and insurance cover.

Taking note of cases of people allegedly being cheated in the name of overseas employment and migration, Shanty called for strict action against those using fake visas, forged offer letters and false promises to defraud people of their hard-earned money.

Several residents submitted complaints during the hearing, following which directions were issued to the concerned officials for their early resolution and to prevent unnecessary harassment.

ADC (General) Anuprita Johal assured that the Commission’s directions would be implemented in letter and spirit and that efforts would be made to resolve public grievances on priority.

Shanty said the Commission was continuously monitoring issues involving human rights violations and protection of citizens’ constitutional rights. He urged people to submit written complaints whenever they faced injustice or violation of human rights, adding that efforts would be made to act on such complaints within two days.

For the convenience of the public, the Commission has also provided 9855475547 for registering human rights-related complaints.
