Himachal Pradesh Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Sunday accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of misleading Congress legislators by promising ministerial berths without submitting a formal proposal for Cabinet expansion.
Thakur’s remarks came a day after Himachal Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajni Patil said Sukhu had not yet submitted any proposal regarding Cabinet expansion and that the party would take further action only after receiving one.
The BJP leader alleged that Sukhu had repeatedly said in the Assembly and at public meetings that a legislator would be inducted into the Cabinet, but the promise had not been implemented despite the passage of nearly a year.
“The Chief Minister keeps making claims about making his MLAs Ministers, but becomes silent when it comes to implementing these promises before his party high command,” Thakur said.
He alleged that the Chief Minister was keeping legislators aligned with him by holding out the prospect of ministerial positions and was seeking to strengthen his own faction.
“Now even the Congress in-charge has exposed the Chief Minister’s style of functioning. She (Rajni Patil) is telling the media that no proposal for Cabinet expansion has been received from Himachal Pradesh,” Thakur said.
Referring to the legislator whom Sukhu had allegedly promised to induct into the Cabinet, Thakur said the MLA had frequently accompanied the Chief Minister at official programmes and during visits outside the state.
The former Chief Minister questioned when Sukhu would submit the proposal, pointing out that the Congress government is set to complete four years in December 2026. Patil has said further action on the Cabinet expansion would follow only after a formal proposal is received from the Chief Minister.
Thakur also attended a public programme in Shimla’s Ward 12 to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 138th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ along with BJP workers, office-bearers and local residents.
He described ‘Mann Ki Baat’ as a platform that highlights achievements, innovations and inspirational work by ordinary citizens.
