President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday congratulated Harita Bhadra and Ancy Sojan after the Indian athletes won bronze and silver medals respectively at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Harita claimed bronze in the women’s 200m final, while Ancy finished with silver in the women’s long jump.
“Warm congratulations to Harita Bhadra on winning the Bronze Medal in the Women’s 200 Metres event at the Asian Games 2026. In a highly competitive race, you held your ground to secure a memorable finish. May you continue to pursue excellence,” Murmu posted on X.
The President also congratulated Ancy for her silver-medal performance.
“Heartiest congratulations to Ancy Sojan on securing the Silver Medal in the Women’s Long Jump event at the Asian Games 2026. Your performance in a thrilling final is a testament to your skill and determination. May you continue to scale greater heights,” she said.
Harita clocked 23.20 seconds to finish third in the 200m final, edging Japan’s sprinter by one-hundredth of a second. Singapore’s Veronica Shanti Pereira won gold in 22.78 seconds, while China’s Chen Yujie took silver in 22.93 seconds. India’s Unnathi Aiyappa Bolland finished sixth in 23.46 seconds.
Harita’s bronze ended India’s wait for a women’s 200m Asian Games medal since Dutee Chand’s bronze in 2018. The 23-year-old was competing at her first Asian Games after improving her personal best to 23.14 seconds at the 65th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships.
In the women’s long jump, Ancy opened with 6.49m and remained in medal contention throughout the final. After a foul on her second attempt, she regained the lead in the fifth round with a 6.53m effort.
China’s Huang Yingying then produced a 6.55m jump with her final attempt to move ahead by two centimetres, leaving Ancy with silver after her final jump measured 6.49m.
China’s Mengyi Tan won bronze with 6.46m, while India’s Shaili Singh finished fourth with 6.42m.
Ancy has enjoyed a breakthrough 2026 season, highlighted by a national record of 6.88m at a World Athletics Continental Tour event in Bhubaneswar.
