Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday personally initiated development work for Simhastha 2028 by using a pickaxe to demolish a portion of his ancestral home in Ujjain’s Abdalpura area.
Yadav visited the house associated with his birthplace and childhood, performed traditional prayers outside and then began removing the portion of the structure that falls within the road-widening alignment.
The house was built by his grandfather Ramchandra Yadav in 1974. Around 2.90 metres of the property has been identified for removal under the project, while about 3.8 metres of adjoining property belonging to his sister Kalawati Yadav is also affected.
“It is natural to feel emotional when one has to demolish the house where one was born, grew up and played. But if it is necessary for Simhastha, this sacrifice for development must be made,” the Chief Minister said.
The road-widening project covers a 730-metre stretch from Khajur Wali Masjid to Ganesh Chowk, which is planned to be expanded to a uniform width of 15 metres at an estimated cost of Rs 9.80 crore. A total of 272 buildings have been identified as being affected by the project.
Yadav said personal property had to be sacrificed when necessary for the larger public interest and development. He also praised Ujjain residents for cooperating with the road-widening exercise.
The Chief Minister said people from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Parsi communities had voluntarily set back portions of their properties, including places of worship, for the project.
He said the development work reflected Ujjain’s spirit of cooperation and would help improve roads, traffic movement and infrastructure ahead of Simhastha 2028.
Ujjain is preparing for the major religious gathering, with the administration planning extensive infrastructure upgrades to handle the expected influx of visitors.
