Actress Shilpa Shetty has shared her perspective on happiness, saying gratitude, acceptance and meaningful connections are key to staying happy in life.
Shetty was among the speakers at India’s first World Happiness Summit, held at New Horizon College of Engineering in Bengaluru. The summit, hosted by Happpy AiR – Atman in Ravi, brought together voices from entertainment, public life, entrepreneurship, spirituality, wellness and social leadership.
Speaking about what she considers the key to lasting happiness, Shetty said gratitude is something that needs to be consciously practised.
“I think we all have our own way of being, and for me, I feel so much in gratitude. Gratitude is something that you have to practice. Even if something doesn’t go your way, I thank the Lord for it not happening,” she said.
The actress added that good health and having family are reasons to feel happy, while accepting that whatever comes a person’s way is part of their journey.
Shetty also spoke about looking beyond external identity and focusing on the soul. “I think sometimes we tend to overlook the soul and focus only on the outer body and the name,” she said, adding that she prefers to interact with people “on a soul level”.
“I always say ‘Atma Namaste’ — it is my soul greeting you. I truly believe that we were all meant to meet, and if something shifts within us through that meeting, perhaps it was already meant to happen,” she added.
Actor Arjun Kapoor, who also participated in the summit, said happiness is often associated with success, achievements and pleasure, while peace and purpose can be overlooked.
“The idea of Pleasure, Peace and Purpose coming together resonated deeply with me,” Kapoor said, adding that happiness for him is about being present, understanding himself better, appreciating the journey and finding meaning beyond the highs and lows of everyday life.
