Nestle India has responded to concerns over the quality of its popular Maggi noodles after a customer in Mumbai’s Kalyan area allegedly found insects and worms in a packet while preparing the product.
According to reports, the customer claimed to have discovered the insects and worms while cooking the noodles. The packet reportedly carried an expiry date of February 2027, prompting questions over how the alleged contamination could have occurred despite the product being within its stated shelf life.
The complaint has raised concerns among consumers over the safety and quality of packaged food products. Calls have also been made for the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take cognisance of the matter and collect samples for laboratory testing.
Responding to the reports, Nestle India said it had not yet been contacted by either the consumer or authorities and could not comment on the authenticity of the complaint.
“We have learnt about this matter through media reports and have not been contacted by the consumer or the authorities as yet. At this stage we cannot comment on the authenticity of the concern raised,” a Nestle India spokesperson said.
The company said every product undergoes multiple quality checks, beginning with the sourcing of raw materials and continuing through manufacturing and packaging, to ensure compliance with applicable quality and food safety standards.
Nestle India further said robust quality and food safety management systems are in place across its manufacturing operations and reiterated its commitment to providing safe and high-quality products to consumers.
