Iranian Army Commander-in-Chief Amir Hatami has said the war involving the United States and Israel has not ended, warning that the “enemy” must remain prepared for further attacks by Iran’s armed forces.
Speaking at a national festival in Tehran on Sunday, Hatami said the adversary had already suffered heavy blows but would have to be prepared for what he described as further “crushing blows” from Iranian forces, according to semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Hatami also urged countries in the region to recognise that cooperation with the United States does not guarantee their security. He said regional security should instead be safeguarded by the countries of the region themselves.
The warning came amid continuing tensions over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), which oversees maritime traffic through the waterway, separately warned ship-owners against allowing charterers to force vessels to use routes it described as illegal.
The authority said such routes could expose vessels, owners, masters and crew to financial and life risks and could affect their future passage through the Strait. It warned that charterers found responsible could be placed on a Non-Compliance List and have their vessels’ passage restricted.
The conflict began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026, followed by Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and US assets in the region. Iran also tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States and Iran later signed a memorandum of understanding in June aimed at ending the conflict and beginning negotiations on a broader settlement. The 60-day framework subsequently collapsed amid renewed hostilities and formally expired in August.
Recent reporting indicates that tensions remain unresolved, with Iran continuing to warn of retaliation against any renewed US military action and the Strait of Hormuz remaining a major point of contention.
