Washington, October 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Prominent Indian-American political donors have contributed approximately three times more to Republican committees and groups than to Democrats during the 2026 US midterm election cycle, despite Indian-American voters continuing to favour Democratic candidates, according to federal campaign finance records.

A review of filings by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) covering 11 prominent donors found around $10.8 million in direct contributions to Republican committees and groups, compared with approximately $3.3 million to Democratic organisations.

Three contributions totalling about $7.1 million from Asha Jadeja Motwani, Krishna Tripuraneni and Anjani Sinha went to MAGA Inc, the super PAC supporting President Donald Trump. The figures cover a selected group of donors and do not represent all political contributions from Indian Americans.

The 2026 AAPI Voter Survey found Indian-American voters favoured Democratic Senate candidates over Republicans by 66 per cent to 18 per cent, although the sample of Indian-American respondents was small.

VoterAtlas, which tracks campaign contributions using Indian and South Asian surnames, recorded $35.3 million in itemised receipts for the 2026 election cycle through August 30, without providing a party-wise breakdown.

Some contributions from prominent donors have also reached campaigns opposing Indian-American Democratic candidates. Republican joint fundraising committee Grow the Majority distributed $7,000 each from contributions by Motwani and Palantir executive Shyam Sankar to Jay Feely, who is challenging Democrat Amish Shah in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.

Separately, $3,500 from a contribution in Sankar’s name was routed through Emmer Majority Builders to Casey Askar, who is opposing Pia Dandiya in Florida’s 22nd District.

On the Democratic side, the Impact Fund, the political arm of Indian American Impact, raised approximately $1.92 million during the cycle and reported around $331,000 in cash on hand as of September 30. Its largest contribution was $500,000 from Sumir Chadha of WestBridge Capital.

The fund spent heavily during primaries but had reported no independent expenditures in the general election. Outside groups have spent approximately $11.6 million opposing Shah and Dandiya.

Sankar contributed $250,000 to Americans 4 Security PAC on July 15, according to a quarterly report dated October 15 that had not yet been processed by the FEC. The Wisconsin-based super PAC reported spending about $3.19 million against Republican Representative Young Kim and approximately $51,000 supporting Representative Ken Calvert.

Sankar’s direct political contributions total around $1.5 million. Separately, the Sankar Family Trust donated $250,000 to the Republican National Committee in May 2025.

Motwani’s direct contributions exceed $7 million, including $5.1 million to MAGA Inc and $886,000 to the Republican National Committee. Among Indian-American Democratic donors, venture capitalist Vinod Khosla remains the largest contributor, with approximately $2.1 million, almost all directed to Senate Majority PAC.
