BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Monday targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over reports of his foreign trip, questioning his absence from India during the Navratri festivities and asking whether he was travelling to meet his alleged “chaos collaborators”.
In a post on X, Bhandari claimed that Gandhi was travelling abroad for a holiday and accused him of prioritising breaks over political responsibilities.
“Rahul Gandhi is back to doing what he does best: taking a break and enjoying a holiday!” Bhandari wrote, adding that Gandhi was reportedly abroad during Navratri. He also linked his criticism to the Congress leader’s repeated allegations of “vote chori” against the BJP.
Uttar Pradesh Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar separately took a swipe at Gandhi, invoking the traditional burning of Ravana effigies during Dussehra.
“Rahul Ji, I heard that you left for a foreign trip last night. Couldn’t you witness the burning of your friend Ravana right before your eyes?” Rajbhar wrote on X.
The remarks came amid an ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress over Gandhi’s allegations of electoral irregularities.
A day earlier, Gandhi had accused the BJP leadership of orchestrating alleged electoral malpractice while addressing a Congress rally in Margao, Goa. He described “vote chori” as an attack on the Constitution and said the Congress had a responsibility to defend it.
Gandhi also challenged Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and others over the allegations, saying they would face legal consequences. Referring to the defamation cases already filed against him, he challenged his critics to initiate another case over his claims of electoral wrongdoing.
The BJP leaders’ remarks about Gandhi’s reported travel were political attacks, and the posts cited did not independently establish the details or purpose of his trip.
