Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Monday condemned the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, calling such attacks unacceptable and urging political leaders not to politicise the matter.
Athawale said Shroff, son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff, had gone to play football when unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire at his vehicle. While the actor escaped unhurt, his caretaker and driver, Firdos Ibrahim Baloch, sustained injuries.
“I feel that such attacks happening in Mumbai are not right,” Athawale said, adding that the Maharashtra government was committed to apprehending those responsible.
He claimed that the attack was linked to Shroff’s association with films featuring actor Salman Khan and alleged that associates of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang were involved. However, the involvement of any particular gang has not been established in the investigation so far.
Bihar Minister Ram Kripal Yadav also condemned the incident, describing it as unfortunate and concerning. He called for the arrest of the accused and strict action to prevent similar incidents.
BJP leader Ram Kadam said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had spoken to the Mumbai Police Commissioner following the shooting. He called for a thorough investigation to identify the attackers and establish the motive. Kadam also said Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had met Shroff on behalf of the government.
Congress leader Riyaz stressed the need to ensure the safety of people associated with the film industry, saying actors and other professionals should be able to work without fear.
The firing took place around 7 p.m. on October 18, when Shroff and Baloch were returning by car after playing football. According to the complaint, two unidentified assailants approached the vehicle and opened fire with pistols. Another person in the vicinity was also reportedly hit by a bullet.
Juhu Police have registered a case under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Investigators are working to identify the alleged shooters and establish the motive behind the attack.
