The Indian Air Force (IAF) airlifted a critically ill 30-year-old civilian from Leh to Palam in Delhi during a late-night emergency evacuation, enabling the patient to receive urgent medical treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The evacuation was carried out at short notice using an IAF C-130J aircraft amid darkness and challenging weather conditions, according to the Western Air Command (WAC).
In a post on X, the WAC said the mission required a high level of operational preparedness, professional coordination and timely execution to transport the patient from the high-altitude region of Ladakh to Delhi.
After the aircraft arrived at Palam, an ambulance waiting at the airbase transferred the patient to AIIMS for further medical care.
The Western Air Command said the operation demonstrated the IAF’s ability to respond promptly to critical humanitarian needs, including medical evacuations in difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.
The airlift highlighted the role of military aviation in providing emergency assistance to civilians when rapid transportation is essential for access to specialised medical facilities.
Separately, as part of events marking the 94th Air Force Day, Air Force Station Ambala under the Western Air Command organised a display showcasing the IAF’s operational capabilities and military equipment.
Students and National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from nearby schools and colleges were invited to observe the display and gain first-hand exposure to the force’s capabilities, technological advancements and operational preparedness.
Personnel from the IAF, local civil administration, Military Engineer Services, police, civil medical services and higher educational institutions also participated in the outreach initiative.
The Western Air Command said such activities were aimed at strengthening engagement with the younger generation and encouraging future leaders to serve the nation.
