Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday renewed his allegations of “vote chori” against the BJP-led government and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, vowing that those responsible would be held accountable under the law.

Addressing a rally in Margao on the concluding day of the Congress’ 27-day Goy Rakhon Yatra, Gandhi described the Congress as the “guardian of the Constitution” and accused those allegedly involved in electoral malpractice of undermining democratic institutions.

“Gyanesh Kumar and others will face the law and pay a price for what they have done,” Gandhi said, challenging the government to file a case against him over his repeated allegations of electoral manipulation.

He claimed that he was already facing 45 cases, including defamation proceedings, and argued that legal action over his vote theft allegations would bring the issue into the judicial domain.

Gandhi reiterated allegations of electoral irregularities in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Assam. He accused those allegedly involved of deleting Opposition voters, adding votes in their favour and shifting voters between districts and states. He urged Congress workers in Goa to remain vigilant against any such attempts.

The Congress leader also targeted the BJP government in Goa, alleging widespread corruption and claiming that the Chief Minister’s assets had increased significantly since the previous elections. He accused the ruling party of treating Goa as a “piggy bank” to extract money and resources.

Earlier, Gandhi joined Congress workers for the final leg of the Goy Rakhon Yatra in Margao, ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections.

The 27-day campaign covered all 40 Assembly constituencies and highlighted issues including land conversion, unemployment, corruption, public safety, environmental protection and the preservation of Goa’s cultural identity.

Elections to the 40-member Goa Assembly are due in February-March 2027.
