Jalandhar, October 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Punjab on October 20, 2026, with Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur expected to feature in his itinerary.

His scheduled visit coincides with Dussehra celebrations in North India.

During the visit, Shah is likely to meet the families of three persons whose deaths have sparked serious concerns over drug-related activities and the law and order situation in Punjab.

These include the family of slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, the family of Gulzar Singh of Toor Banjara village in Sangrur district, who died by suicide, and the family of Bikramjit Singh of Sri Hargobindpur in Gurdaspur district, who was allegedly killed for opposing drug-related activities in his area.

It remains to be seen whether Amit Shah will announce any specific action in connection with the three cases or make a broader announcement concerning the drug menace in Punjab during his visit.

The visit would mark Shah’s second trip to Punjab within approximately 20 days, ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

He had earlier addressed a BJP rally in Jalandhar organised to mark the culmination of the party’s four anti-drug yatras.

Mansa Visit Significant Amid Jhota Murder Protests

Shah’s proposed visit to Mansa assumes particular significance in view of the continuing protests over the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota.

Jhota was shot dead in broad daylight in a busy market in Mansa, allegedly by medical store owner Ashwani Kumar.

The killing triggered widespread outrage across Punjab, with Jhota’s father Bhim Singh and a 21-member action committee leading protests demanding justice.

The protest has entered its fifth day, and the family has so far declined to permit the post-mortem examination and cremation of Jhota’s body.

The family is demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the murder and the resignation of Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.

Against this backdrop, Shah’s expected meeting with the family could assume considerable political and administrative significance.

Sangrur: Gulzar Singh Suicide Case

During his visit to Sangrur district, Shah may meet the family of Gulzar Singh of Toor Banjara village, who died by suicide.

According to allegations surrounding the case, Gulzar Singh was subjected to pressure and humiliation by members of the village panchayat after he informed Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema that his son was still obtaining drugs in the area.

The allegations concerning the circumstances leading to his death have not been established through any findings cited in the available information.

Gurdaspur: Bikramjit Singh Murder Case

The Union Home Minister is also likely to visit Sri Hargobindpur in Gurdaspur district to meet the family of Bikramjit Singh, a 40-year-old man who was allegedly murdered after objecting to the activities of drug dealers in his locality.

The killing has raised concerns about the safety of residents who speak out against drug trafficking and related activities.

Union Home Ministry Has Already Sought Reports

Significantly, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has already sent three separate communications to the Punjab Government concerning the incidents involving Parvinder Singh Jhota, Gulzar Singh and Bikramjit Singh.

The Ministry has sought responses from the state government regarding each incident.

Shah’s proposed meetings with the affected families would come against the backdrop of these communications and the continuing political controversy over Punjab’s anti-drug campaign.

His second visit to Punjab within a short period also assumes significance as political parties intensify their activities ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

The detailed schedule of the Home Minister’s engagements and the proposed family meetings is yet to be formally confirmed.
