Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has criticised Delhi Police over the detention of students and activists during protests at Jantar Mantar, using the recent firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff to question the force’s priorities.
In a post on X, Dipke said the police should focus on tackling criminals instead of detaining students and activists.
“Instead of cracking down on students and activists, the police should focus on actual criminals. This is what happens when the Govt and police have their priorities completely misplaced,” he wrote.
His remarks came amid attention surrounding the firing incident linked to Tiger Shroff and renewed discussion over policing and security.
Dipke sought to draw a contrast between the detention of protesters at Jantar Mantar and the handling of serious criminal incidents. Reports have indicated that Delhi Police detained several students and activists during recent demonstrations at the protest site.
His comments have also prompted debate over whether the two issues can be directly compared. Critics argue that maintaining law and order at designated protest sites is a legitimate police responsibility, while supporters of Dipke say the detention of protesters raises questions about how law enforcement resources and attention are being prioritised.
The incident has consequently become part of a wider social media debate over the role of police in managing public demonstrations while responding to violent crime and security-related incidents.
Dipke’s comments come as the Tiger Shroff firing incident remains a subject of public attention. Police have not issued a specific response to his allegations regarding their priorities.
