The Vajra Punjab Hockey League 2024 – Season I concluded with a grand Closing Ceremony at the Astroturf Katoch Stadium, Jalandhar Cantt, on 23 November, 2024. The Tournament, organized under the aegis of Vajra Corps, has been a milestone event in promoting sports, healthy living, and community engagement across Punjab. The Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony was Lt Gen Ajay Chandpuria, GOC, Vajra Corps.
The final match was an intense spectacle between the teams of Punjab Armed Police, Jalandhar and Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. Both teams exhibited exceptional stick work and sportsmanship while the audience were kept glued to the edge of their seats. Team Punjab Armed Police, Jalandhar won the league with a score of 01 and claimed a prize money of Rs 2 Lakh.
The Closing Ceremony featured a rich blend of cultural and martial performances
highlighting India’s heritage and diverse traditions through Gatka and Khukri Dances portraying the warrior traditions of the Indian Army.
Enhancing the vibrancy of the event, students from Schools & Colleges presented lively Bhangra, Gidda & Rajasthani folk dances infusing the ceremony with a joyous and energetic spirit of Punjab. The street play on drug abuse aimed at increasing awareness amongst the youth and reinforced the tournament’s message of promoting a drug-free lifestyle and community health.
The closing ceremony attracted enthusiastic participation from the community, dignitaries, and sports enthusiasts who came together to celebrate the league’s success and encourage youth involvement in constructive pursuits such as sports & serving the nation by joining the Indian Army.
The Vajra Punjab Hockey League 2024 – Season I has contributed towards elevating the standard of sports in Punjab while spreading a message of unity, health, and social responsibility. The successful season has set the foundation for future initiatives which will continue to promote positive change through sports and cultural integration in the region.
