Kolkata, October 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

West Bengal’s Sagardighi MLA Bayron Biswas suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at his residence in Dhulian, Murshidabad, on Saturday.

Biswas was initially taken to a private nursing home owned by him for treatment and was later shifted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. Reports from local sources said he sustained burns to parts of his body, while authorities were assessing his condition.

The fire broke out while the MLA was at home. The exact circumstances leading to the blaze have not been established, and police and fire services officials are looking into the incident. Reports said the fire caused concern in the area, with people gathering outside his residence.

Biswas is associated with the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction of the Trinamool Congress, which has been allotted the name Democratic Trinamool Congress following the split in the party.

Biswas first entered the West Bengal Assembly in the 2023 Sagardighi bypoll as a Congress candidate backed by the Left Front. He subsequently joined the Trinamool Congress. Although he switched parties, he continued to be officially listed as a Congress MLA for the remainder of that Assembly term.

The Trinamool Congress fielded Biswas from Sagardighi in the 2026 Assembly elections, where he defeated BJP candidate Tapas Kumar Chakraborty by 34,260 votes, securing 90,781 votes against Chakraborty’s 56,521.

The incident comes amid political developments in West Bengal following the 2026 Assembly elections and the subsequent split within the Trinamool Congress.
