Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has claimed that it captured a second US unmanned underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz, identifying the system as a Remus 600.
According to a statement carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC said the autonomous underwater vehicle was intercepted in what it described as a coordinated operation involving intelligence capabilities and electronic warfare. Iranian authorities alleged that the vehicle was conducting espionage activities in the strategic waterway.
The IRGC said the Remus 600 had been handed over to specialists to recover information from the system. It also reiterated that Iran considers the Strait of Hormuz closed and warned that it would continue taking action against what it described as dangerous movements and unauthorised transit.
The claim marks the second such seizure announced by the IRGC this month. Earlier in September, Iranian forces said they had captured a US unmanned underwater vehicle identified as the Dive-LD near the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest claim comes amid continuing tensions over the strategic waterway, which has been at the centre of the broader conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global energy shipments, and its closure has disrupted maritime traffic.
Iranian Army chief Amir Hatami separately said on Sunday that the conflict involving the United States and Israel had not ended. Addressing a national festival in Tehran, he said Iran’s armed forces remained prepared to respond to further threats.
Hatami also called on regional countries to rely on regional cooperation for security, arguing that partnership with the United States could not by itself guarantee their safety.
There was no immediate independent confirmation of the IRGC’s claim about the seizure.
