Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced 12 nationwide public welfare programmes under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyaan’ to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service.
The month-long campaign will begin on September 17, PM Modi’s birthday, and conclude on October 17. Held annually, the initiative sees thousands of party workers organise ‘seva camps’ across the country to promote the message of public service.
Addressing the media alongside Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shah said the 12 programmes would commemorate 25 years of service by the Prime Minister as the country’s ‘Pradhan Sevak’.
The programmes include ‘NaMo Seva’s Untold Stories’, blood donation camps, musical and theatrical performances in local languages, ‘Aangan Milan Sewa’, ‘Matru Samvad’, ‘Sewa Jyoti Kalash Yatra’ and ‘Seva Mera Yogdaan’.
A ‘Vadnagar to Varanasi Sewa Yatra’ will also be organised, with youth groups setting out from both ends and travelling through seven states. The participants will cover long distances and make overnight halts in villages along the route.
Shah said the campaign would be conducted nationwide across every administrative unit, covering states and Union Territories, Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies and extending down to the polling-booth level.
The ‘Seva Setu Abhiyaan’ will be held at the block and panchayat levels to expand the reach of government welfare schemes to all sections of society.
Other initiatives include the ‘Viksit Bharat Jan Sankalp’ programme, under which people will take a pledge to contribute towards a developed India. Another programme will provide beneficiaries an opportunity to recall the changes and transformation in their lives over the past two decades.
