The CPI-M has announced a protest march in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday after its district party office was allegedly vandalised and set on fire on Monday night.
The Left party alleged that miscreants affiliated with the BJP attacked its district office on DBC Road in Jalpaiguri at around 10.30 p.m., vandalising the premises with sticks before setting it ablaze.
According to the CPI-M, the violence continued for some time, following which the party lodged a written complaint with the police.
CPI-M state Secretary Md Salim condemned the incident and shared a video of the alleged attack on his X account. He claimed that BJP-linked miscreants attacked the party office “like thieves” late Monday night.
The video purportedly shows a group of people attacking the premises before setting it on fire. Those present inside reportedly shut the gate, after which the attackers allegedly attempted to break it open and threatened those inside.
CPI-M Jalpaiguri district Secretary Piyush Mishra demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
“RSS-BJP miscreants vandalised the Jalpaiguri district party office, set it on fire, and even burned the party flag. The miscreants must be arrested immediately,” Mishra said.
The CPI-M leader also announced that a protest march would be held in Jalpaiguri from 4 p.m. on Tuesday to condemn the incident. He appealed to people to participate in the march from the Subodh Sen Bhavan district centre to protest the alleged attack and protect the party’s red flag.
There was no immediate response from the BJP to the allegations.
