Punjabi actress Lovepreet Gill, who has entered the Bigg Boss 20 house as a contestant, has asked viewers not to compare her with former contestant Shehnaaz Gill, saying she wants to be recognised for her own identity and work.
Lovepreet, while speaking to IANS, acknowledged Shehnaaz as a senior artiste but stressed that she too has spent several years in the industry and has an identity of her own.
“She is my senior artist, but I have my own identity. I have also given a few years to the industry. She is a senior artist. I request the public to understand that I have my own name. My family has given me my identity. Please give me love too. Don’t compare us,” Lovepreet said.
She was responding to a question about comparisons with Shehnaaz, who became one of the most talked-about contestants during Bigg Boss 13. Shehnaaz entered the Salman Khan-hosted reality show with the tag ‘Punjab ki Katrina’ and gained a strong following for her bubbly personality.
Her stint on the show also brought considerable attention to her bond with late actor Sidharth Shukla. Their popularity among viewers led to the social media hashtag ‘SidNaaz’, which became widely popular.
Shehnaaz finished as the second runner-up of Bigg Boss 13, while Sidharth emerged as the season’s winner.
Sidharth died on September 2, 2021, at the age of 40 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest at his Mumbai residence. His death shocked the entertainment industry and his fans.
With Lovepreet now participating in Bigg Boss 20, she has made it clear that she hopes audiences will judge her journey independently rather than through comparisons with another Punjabi artiste.
