Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday highlighted the enthusiastic public reception accorded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Vadodara, describing it as a reflection of the “profound trust and commitment” shared between the Prime Minister and the people.
In a post on X, Shah said the bond of trust and commitment between Modi and the people had “grown from strength to strength” over time.
Shah’s remarks came during Modi’s visit to Vadodara, where the Prime Minister inaugurated, dedicated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth more than Rs 35,000 crore.
The programme at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda drew a large gathering, with Modi receiving an energetic welcome at the ‘NaMo 4 Viksit Bharat’ event.
A key highlight of the visit was the dedication of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), covering 326 route kilometres and developed at a cost of more than Rs 20,700 crore. The Sanand (North)-Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority sections complete the freight corridor network across its full length.
The completed corridor is expected to speed up the movement of export-import cargo, strengthen industrial-port connectivity, reduce logistics costs and ease congestion on Mumbai’s railway network. Modi also flagged off freight services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT.
He also flagged off a new passenger train between Vadodara and Tanda Road and dedicated the Jobat-Tanda Road railway line, aimed at connecting remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur with the national rail network.
Foundation stones were laid for three railway projects spanning 329 km and costing more than Rs 9,700 crore, including additional lines between Vadodara and Ratlam, gauge conversion of the Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar section and doubling of the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi section.
The programme also included three National Highway projects worth around Rs 1,780 crore and Gujarat government projects valued at around Rs 2,600 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Modi linked the infrastructure push to his vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and praised residents for undertaking a cleanliness campaign ahead of his visit. He also highlighted manufacturing, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, skills and employment, urging young Indians to prepare for emerging sectors.
The scale of public participation had drawn attention even before Modi’s arrival. Free registration opened through BookMyShow by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, with all available seats reportedly booked within an hour and more than 42,000 additional applicants placed on a waiting list. Digital M-Tickets and live QR-code verification were used for entry.
After Vadodara, Modi travelled to Navsari and Mumbai for the Global Fintech Fest 2026, combining the day’s infrastructure-focused engagements in Gujarat with a focus on emerging financial technologies in Maharashtra.
