Congress leader and former Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot on Tuesday met Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in New Delhi, shortly after being appointed the party’s Punjab in-charge.
Pilot shared a photograph of the meeting and said he had expressed his gratitude to the Congress leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility of Punjab.
“Met with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi this morning and expressed my gratitude to them for entrusting me with the responsibility of Punjab,” Pilot said in a post.
“I am fully confident that through collective effort, a strong organisation and the energy of our party workers, the Congress will return to power in Punjab. Our efforts will be driven by complete dedication and commitment towards building a better future for Punjab and protecting and upholding the rights of every section of society, including farmers and the youth,” he added.
The meeting took place at 10 Janpath in New Delhi, with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra congratulating Pilot on taking charge of his new organisational responsibility.
According to party sources, the meeting, described as a courtesy call, also included an initial discussion on the political and organisational challenges confronting the Punjab Congress and preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections.
The Congress has not officially disclosed details of the closed-door discussions. However, sources said the meeting touched upon the party’s roadmap for Punjab, organisational activities and preparations for the upcoming polls.
Pilot’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture for the Punjab Congress, which is working to strengthen its organisational structure and regain political ground. One of the immediate challenges before him will be to improve coordination among senior leaders, legislators and grassroots workers while bringing different factions of the state unit together.
Pilot is expected to visit Chandigarh shortly to meet senior Punjab Congress leaders, legislators and party workers. The visit is likely to help him assess the organisational situation and formulate the party’s next course of action.
The Punjab assignment significantly expands Pilot’s organisational responsibilities beyond Rajasthan. His ability to unite the state unit and develop an effective electoral strategy will be closely watched ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
A successful tenure in Punjab could further enhance Pilot’s standing within the Congress at the national level. For now, his immediate task will be to translate the confidence placed in him by the party leadership into organisational momentum on the ground.
