The FIR registered over the death of 54-year-old Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh has revealed details of the alleged assault outside his residence in Delhi’s Kilokari area on September 6.
According to the complaint filed by his son, Yaiphaba, he was at home with his family at around 11.30 p.m. when he heard his father shouting outside. On opening the door, he allegedly saw four to five youths punching and kicking his father, including in the face.
Yaiphaba told police that he raised an alarm, following which the youths fled the spot. He said he saw their faces while they were running away and could identify them if they were brought before him.
The FIR stated that Yaiphaba then took his injured father to Holy Family Hospital in a taxi, accompanied by his mother Jochia and a neighbour, Rado. During the journey, Vikram Singh allegedly told his son that the youths had come from a dhaba located opposite their residence.
He also reportedly said some of the youths had threatened him earlier after he objected to noise and nuisance allegedly being created near the dhaba.
According to the complaint, Vikram Singh subsequently fainted inside the taxi and died during treatment at Holy Family Hospital.
Yaiphaba said his father had worked as a musician but had been away from work for around seven to eight years and mostly remained at home. The family originally hailed from Imphal, Manipur, while Yaiphaba is pursuing a BA LLB at Asian Law College in Noida.
The complainant alleged that his father died as a result of the assault and requested legal action against all those responsible.
Delhi Police has registered a case and launched an investigation. Teams are working to identify and trace the youths allegedly involved in the assault.
