NCB Secures Conviction of Two Drug Traffickers in 1,127-Kg Ganja Seizure Case

New Delhi, September 9, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has secured the conviction of two drug traffickers in connection with the seizure of 1,127 kg of ganja in Maharashtra, marking a significant success in its efforts to curb drug trafficking.

The Additional Sessions Judge, Special NDPS Court, Biloli, Nanded, convicted Gokul Narayan Rajput and Sunil Yadav Mahajan on September 8 in a case investigated by the NCB Mumbai Zonal Unit.

The case dates back to November 15, 2021, when NCB officers intercepted a truck bearing registration number MH-26-AD-2165 near Manjram village in Naigaon taluka of Nanded district. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 49 bags containing 1,127 kg of ganja. The contraband, along with the truck and other seized articles, was taken into custody in accordance with the law.

Rajput, the truck driver, and Mahajan, the co-driver, were subsequently arrested. The prosecution established that both men were in conscious possession of a commercial quantity of ganja and had failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the contraband.

After examining the evidence and material on record, the court held that the prosecution had proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The court sentenced both accused to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh each. In case of default in payment, each will undergo an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment. The court also ordered confiscation of the truck and other relevant seized articles, subject to the statutory process under the NDPS Act.

The NCB said the conviction reflects its commitment to effective investigation and prosecution of drug trafficking cases and to dismantling networks involved in the illegal narcotics trade.

The agency urged citizens to support the fight against drug trafficking. Information regarding the sale, trafficking or distribution of narcotic drugs can be shared through the MANAS-National Narcotics Helpline at 1933. The identity of informers will be kept confidential.
