Mohali, September 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Amritsar Soormas batter Naman Dhir produced a stunning power-hitting masterclass in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League, smashing a record-breaking 173 off just 64 balls against Mohali Kings at the I.S. Bindra Stadium on Tuesday.
Dhir struck 16 fours and 12 sixes during his remarkable innings, driving the Soormas to a mammoth 279/7 in their 20 overs.
Despite reaching an extraordinary personal score, Dhir said he remained focused on playing each delivery according to its merit rather than thinking about his individual tally.
“I was thinking from the first ball that I just had to play the merit of the ball. So, I didn’t pay attention to my score. Whatever I did after reaching 150, I was still thinking that I should play every shot on the merit of the ball,” he said.
Amritsar were 63/2 in the fifth over when Dhir was joined by Jashanpreet Singh. The pair added 120 runs for the third wicket, with Jashanpreet contributing a brisk 41 off 25 balls.
Dhir credited Jashanpreet for providing crucial support during the partnership.
“I think he batted really well as soon as he came in. He didn’t put any pressure on me. We were looking to put up the maximum possible total. He played some great shots and supported me really well,” Dhir said.
After Jashanpreet’s dismissal, Dhir continued his assault. Abhishek Sharma added 13 off four balls, while Abhay Choudhary scored 20 off 10 to help Amritsar reach the imposing total.
Mohali Kings, needing 280 for victory, struggled to match the required run rate and kept losing wickets. Jaskaranvir Paul led the resistance with a 76 off 41 balls, but the lack of sustained support meant Mohali finished at 212/9 in 20 overs.
Amritsar’s Shubham Rana was the standout bowler, claiming 4/30 in four overs. Ayush Goyal also took four wickets for Mohali but conceded 43 runs.
Dhir highlighted Rana’s role alongside leg-spinner Markande in controlling the middle overs.
“Shubham Rana is an X-factor for us, especially along with Markande. If you have two leg-spinners on wickets like these and you need wickets in the middle overs, I think they are doing exactly that job for us,” he said.
Dhir’s extraordinary 173 remained the defining performance of the contest as Amritsar Soormas secured a convincing 67-run victory.
