Another Case Filed Against BRS Leaders Over Alleged Abuse of Women Police Officers

Hyderabad Police have registered another case against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders over allegations of abusing and obstructing women police personnel during an incident at the Telangana Assembly building entrance on Monday.

The case was registered at Saifabad Police Station on a complaint by woman constable K. Padmavathi against BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao, BRS Deputy Leader in the Telangana Assembly T. Harish Rao and several other party legislators.

The leaders have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly obstructing women police personnel from performing their duties, using abusive language and issuing threats.

The incident took place at Gate No. 3 after police stopped BRS legislators from entering the Assembly premises while wearing black T-shirts bearing slogans. According to the complaint, some legislators allegedly made objectionable remarks against women police officers and removed their T-shirts, standing semi-naked in close proximity to the personnel.

The complainant further alleged that the legislators attempted to force their way into the Assembly by pushing and jostling women constables. She said she, along with SI Triveni and constables Rashmi Yadav and Soumya, suffered physical and mental distress and were subsequently admitted to Gleneagles Hospital.

Police are examining photographs, videos and medical records as part of the investigation.

This is the second case registered against BRS leaders over Monday’s incidents. An earlier FIR accused several leaders of obstructing and allegedly assaulting police personnel, abusing women constables, threatening staff, grabbing police personnel by the collar and pushing Quick Reaction Team personnel.

Meanwhile, two BRS MLCs — T. Madhusudan alias Madhu and N. Naveen Kumar Reddy — were arrested on Tuesday over alleged derogatory remarks against Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. A court in Nampally later ordered their release on personal bonds and sureties. The Legislative Council also suspended both MLCs for the remainder of the Monsoon Session.
